Mamy Dom School & Community Website

Context

Mamy Dom is a local school and community initiative that needed a simple, credible, and easy-to-maintain website. The goal was to explain what the school is, who stands behind it, how the community works, and how interested parents can learn more or get in touch.

The website had to feel human and approachable, while still being structured enough to support recruitment, events, and basic public communication.

The core problem

The challenge was not visual complexity, but clarity. A school website has to answer practical questions quickly while also building trust: What is this place? Who runs it? What values does it represent? What is happening now? How can parents take the next step?

This required a calm information architecture, clear navigation, and a tone that avoids both corporate polish and informal chaos.

My role

I designed and built the website end to end: information architecture, content structure, visual direction, responsive layout, technical implementation, and deployment workflow.

The work combined UX writing, web design, frontend implementation, and practical thinking about how a small organization can keep a website useful over time.

Key UX decisions

• Keeping the structure simple and understandable for parents visiting the site for the first time
• Separating core school information from current events and recruitment content
• Using a lightweight static architecture to keep the site fast, stable, and easy to maintain
• Designing for mobile-first reading, since many visitors will reach the site from social media or messaging apps
• Making contact and recruitment paths visible without turning the site into a sales funnel

Technology

The site was built with Astro, with a focus on performance, readability, and maintainability. The implementation keeps the project lightweight while allowing the content to grow over time — for example through events, recruitment updates, and informational pages.

Outcomes

• A clear public website for the school and community
• A structure that supports recruitment, events, staff information, and contact
• A lightweight technical foundation that can be updated without unnecessary complexity
• A tone and layout aligned with a human, local, trust-based educational initiative

What I learned

Designing for a small, real-world organization is a useful reminder that good UX is often about restraint: reducing confusion, making the next step obvious, and creating a structure that people can actually maintain.
